Innerpeffray

Chapel

Innerpeffray Chapel was built as the private chapel for the Drummond family in the early 1500s. It initially housed four priests, who were to pray for the souls of the Drummond family. When David Drummond conceived the idea of a public lending library in 1680 his books were stored in a small room at the west end of the chapel until the present library building was constructed sixty years later.

The Chapel is in the care of Historic Scotland. Click here to read more.

Refreshments

Visitors can currently enjoy a range of self-service hot and cold drinks in the Victorian schoolroom which has been modernised to provide up to date facilities without compromising the character of the old building. Currently there is no food served but you are very welcome to eat your own picnic here!

The Schoolroom can be booked for groups and events.

Occasionally the Schoolroom may be closed to accommodate a private event. You can check opening times by phone or email.

Study Groups

We cater for study groups and support researchers from around the world. These range from academics to people following in the footsteps of their ancestors. Whether it is tracing family history through our Borrowers’ Register or PhD research, please ask if we can help with your project.

If you’d like to come to the Library for research purposes, please call or email us to arrange a mutually convenient time.
