Membership of the Friends of Innerpeffray Library is open to anyone who is interested in supporting the library. As a member, you are entitled to visit the library without charge whenever it is open. You are also invited to attend monthly meetings that are held in the old schoolroom between April and October each year at a discounted rate. Past meetings of the Friends have included talks on topics as diverse as the history of the Douglas Fir, restoration of one of the last working ‘puffer’ ships in Scottish coastal waters, the recreation of the marvellous carved ‘heads’ at Stirling castle, the inspiration for and techniques of metal sculpture on the themes of water and fish and the story of the Borrowers who used Innerpeffray Library. Despite the eclectic mix of topics, at each meeting the Keeper of Books at the library manages to find related subject matter from among the thousands of books in her care.

By joining FOIL you will become a member of a community of like-minded people who are interested in preserving an important part of Scottish heritage. The Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century produced some of the finest minds of the age engaged in the study of philosophy, chemistry, geology, architecture and a wealth of other disciplines. Writers such as Adam Smith, David Hume, James Watt and Alison Rutherford set down their often revolutionary ideas in books that were studied throughout the Old and New World. Innerpeffray Library houses a unique and priceless collection of these original works.

All members are entitled to attend FOIL meetings at the reduced charge of £5 per person.

All members will receive an annual newsletter, FOIL News, which is distributed electronically via email and is also available for download from this website or in printed form.

Members may also become actively engaged in arranging events, organising meetings or helping out as a volunteer at the library.
