‘When Fact is Stranger than Fiction’ – Caroline Copeland
Fri 9th September, 2.30-3.30pm
The work of a researcher can often be mundane, but occasionally we stumble across a story so fascinating that we want to delve deeper. Dr Alfred Bulkely Gavin mixed with some of the most glamorous characters of the early 20th century, a fascinating story in itself: but dig deeper and we uncover unanswered questions – questions best explored through fiction.
Caroline Copeland has worked in publishing for over thirty years and has a PhD on Irish novelist Katherine Cecil Thurston. She started writing fiction five years ago. Other people’s lives fascinate her, and she loves uncovering the extraordinary stories behind ordinary facades. She has written two children’s books and a play about the Peacocks of Pittencrieff Park in her hometown of Dunfermline, and also writes for Wondery podcasts. In 2017 she was selected for the Curtis Brown Creative novel writing course, and in 2021 was listed in the top 10% of Bridport Prize entrants. She writes contemporary and historical fiction.
