Innovation and Invention in the History of the Library – Andrew Pettegree & Arthur der Weduwen

Andrew Pettegree and Arthur der Weduwen, authors of the acclaimed The Library, A Fragile History, will take you on a whirlwind tour of libraries, past, present and future. Their keynote lecture will focus on the constant evolution of libraries throughout human history, from the days of the clay tablet to the e-reader.
Andrew Pettegree FBA is Professor of Modern History at the University of St Andrews and Director of the Universal Short Title Catalogue project. He is the author of over a dozen books in the field of Reformation history and the history of communication, including Reformation and the Culture of Persuasion, The Book in the Renaissance, The Invention of News, Brand Luther: 1517, Print and the Making of the Reformation.
Arthur der Weduwen is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of St Andrews and Deputy Director of the Universal Short Title Catalogue project. He specialises in the history of communication, the history of the book, and the history of the Netherlands. He is the author of five books, including Dutch and Flemish Newspapers of the 17th Century, The Bookshop of the World, Making and Trading in the Dutch Golden Age.
