2.Ticket – Alan Montgomery Roman Talk
£10.00
Date: Sunday 15th March. Time: 3pm. Location: The Schoolroom.
In this illustrated talk, Alan Montgomery will discuss his book The Road to Mons Graupius, which records a journey through Scotland along the route of a Roman road. On the way, he searched for evidence of the first-century Roman invasion led by Agricola that concluded in a confrontation with the indigenous tribes by a hill called Mons Graupius. As well as featuring some of Scotland’s most intriguing ancient monuments, the book examines the account of this invasion by the Roman author Tacitus, a unique text that has inspired a fanatical hunt for the elusive site of Scotland’s first recorded battle.
A native of Edinburgh who has lived in London for many years, Alan Montgomery has been fascinated with Scottish history and heritage since childhood. His academic research has included a Masters dissertation on the post-Roman history of the Antonine Wall and a PhD in eighteenth-century attitudes towards Roman Scotland.
