Current Exhibitions

Into the Light
Innerpeffray and Enlightenment Scotland

Although the library as an institution is over 330 years old the present Library building is 250 years old in 2012 and we explore the life and times of Robert Hay Drummond, Patron of the Library who commissioned the handsome Georgian design and added over 1500 books to the collection.

The main exhibition focusses on Enlightenment Scotland, with examples from the collection of the great thinkers of the time such as David Hume and Lord Monboddo.  The exhibition also reveals what local people were reading in the 18th century.

There is a display of books belonging to Hay Drummond, who became Archbishop of York and preached the sermon at the Coronation of George III, and a further display of books marking the 400th anniversary of the birth of James Graham, First Marquis of Montrose.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Library of Innerpeffray.
